Sports Journal Entry 1 – Six Nations

The annual Six Nations competition commenced this past weekend. Some electrifying games took place! Ireland hosted a hungry and eager Scottish team in the Aviva stadium. Both teams showed glimpses of greatness throughout the game, but despise Scotland best efforts, they were fended off by a strong Irish squad with the final score 19-12 to Ireland. Italy were faced with a tough task facing the defending Six Nations champions away in Cardiff. Wales put on a dominant performance, scoring 5 tries and picking up the bonus point. Full time score read 42-0 to Wales. Finally, France hosted tournament favourites England on a wet Sunday afternoon. A stunning first half from a revamped French side saw them score two tries in the first half and lead the favourites going into the second half of the game. A late surge from the world cup finalists scoring two tries in the second half was ultimately not enough to come back and see them pick up the victory. Final score France 24 England 17. Despite England picking up a loser’s bonus point, it seems a daunting task to climb their way to victory this year. This weekend sees a huge clash between a very strong Wales team facing Ireland away in Dublin. Ireland will be hoping to play to their potential, after a disappointing World Cup last summer in Japan. England travel to Murrayfield late Saturday afternoon. They will be looking to put their woeful performance from last weekend behind them as they try fight off a physical Scottish side. The final game of this weekend sees France host Italy in the Stad De France. after a tremendous victory over favourites England, France will be looking to continue their good form, while Italy will at the very least, look to get off the mark with a score after failing to do so against Wales.
